When I was growing up in the nineties, one of the staple Saturday night television shows was Blind Date hosted by the irritating yet brilliant Cilla Black. The show itself was unbelievably trashy, yet it remains ingrained in the heads of all who grew up watching it as a nostalgic view of what Saturday nights used to be like. Blind Date, like its modern day equivalent Take Me Out, became an addiction. This addiction is something that dating shows in general seem to have, no matter how trashy they may be. Take Me Out is truly one of the shallowest of shows, boosting a format in which contestants are rated based on their looks. Late nineties Davina McCall vehicle Streetmate was similarly trashy and equally addictive. The show had McCall running through the streets roping in bystanders who then had to find a date based on attraction. The cringe factor was often increased during the regularly awkward rejections. It is possibly that cringe factor that makes these types of shows so addictive.
UK Air Dates for US & UK Shows in 2020
LONDON — Gone are the days of boring, straightforward dating shows where people meet each other for the first time wearing clothes and chat about their hobbies and stuff. The concept of Naked Attraction is a simple one: a contestant goes on the show, gets shown six naked people bit by bit, starting with the genitals , and basically eliminates them one at a time.
At the end of the segment they get naked themselves, hug the person they’ve picked, then go on a fully-clothed date with them somewhere down the line to see if they actually like each other. The show aired on Monday night, and the NakedAttraction hashtag quickly picked up steam on Twitter. What do you think is more important?

The United Kingdom: land of monarchs, afternoon tea, and refined manners. But it’s also the home of English reality television. D ating shows have been the form of TV in which it has been hardest to make a lasting match. As an idea, Meet the Parents marries Blind Date studio contestant picks potential mate from three possibilities with First Dates the matched pair go on a meal in a restaurant customised by the TV company. But the twist is that there is an intermediary: it is three sets of parents, or sometimes other relatives, who answer questions from the hopeful romantic on behalf of the prospective dates.
The grownups flirt inappropriately with the young chooser, and there is a wedding-speech feel to the sequences in which the adults bring up embarrassing childhood anecdotes or photos. The movie Meet the Parents involves a family called the Fockers and, in the TV equivalent, the tension comes from how likely contestants are to end up focking. After their first dinner, the couple is sent to a photobooth, where physical interaction is encouraged.
In that respect, Meet the Parents and The Lie Detective could be sealed in a time capsule to show defining aspects of 21st-century life. And tattoos are almost as ubiquitous as public displays of affection: presenters hug contestants, couples hold hands at all times, and other body parts at others.
